Biography

Born and raised in Queens, NY, Ms. Rodriguez developed an affinity for singing gospel music from a young age. She continued to sing in church and school choirs and was accepted into Fiorello H. Laguardia High School for Performing Arts in Manhattan. She attended for one year after which her family moved to Florida.

 

Determined to pursue a career in music, Ms. Rodriguez obtained a Bachelors of Science in Music Education at the University of South Florida, where she studied voice under the guidance of Dr. Warren Jaworski. It was here at the university that she performed her first role as Despina in Così fan tutte and was bitten by the performance bug! In the summer of 2011, she performed the role of Frasquita in Carmen under the direction of renowned director Tito Capobianco in Opera Tampa’s Voice Experience program. The following year, Ms. Rodriguez was selected to be the first Opera Tampa Singer, performing in and around the city with 12 other artists at promotional events and opera outreach programs. As an OTS, she performed the national anthem for the Tampa Bay Lightning games held at the Times Forum in downtown Tampa from 2013 until 2017.

In the Spring of 2012, Ms. Rodriguez was voted "Saint Petersburg Opera Idol” leading to several performance opportunities with St. Petersburg Opera. She covered Barbarina in the Le nozze di Figaro, was a featured soloist in Seasonal Sparkle 2012 (SPO’s Holiday Concert) and performed the role of Echo in St. Petersburg Opera’s 2013 summer production of Ariadne auf Naxos. In the summer of the same year, Ms. Rodriguez covered Rosina in Rossini's Il barbiere di Siviglia and debuted with Hubbard Hall Opera as Angelina in Trial by Jury by G&S.

 

In March of 2014, she covered the role of Frasquita in Opera Tampa's production of Carmen under the baton of Maestro Daniel Lipton. October 2014, she performed the role of Belinda in Dido and Aeneas with the South Florida Lyric Opera Company. She played the saucy Despina in Florida Opera Theater's production of Così fan tutte at the new Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts in downtown Orlando; March of 2015. In the summer of that same year, Ms. Rodriguez debuted in the musical theater genre as Maria in Four Guys Named Jose and Una Mujer Named Maria with the Spanish Lyric Theater in Ybor City. In November 2015, she debuted with Winter Opera St. Louis as Elsie Maynard in Gilbert & Sullivan's Yeoman of the Guard and she was delighted to return to Florida Opera Theater to perform in Terrence McNally's Maria Callas Master Class in the same month. In March of 2016, she performed the title role: Ascension in her first full Zarzuela production: La del Monojo de Rosas by Pablo Sorozabal with the Spanish Lyric Theater. 

Recent roles include Frasquita in Carmen (2020), Barbarina and Susanna (cover) in Le nozze di Figaro (2018) with Opera Tampa, Blondie in a Star Trek version of the Abduction from the Seraglio (2018) with Opera Orlando, Maria in scenes from West Side Story (2017) with Southwestern Suburban Symphony, Lucy in The Telephone (2016) with South Florida Lyric Opera and a reprisal of the role of Despina in Così fan tutte with Opera Tampa in 2016.

Within the oratorio repertoire, Ms. Rodriguez has performed as the soprano soloist in: Handel's Messiah at The Church of the Isles in Clearwater, FL, Bach’s Magnificat and Poulenc's Gloria with St. Peter’s Church in St. Petersburg, FL .
